Q. Do I need to have CAD drawings when ordering marquetry? A. No, we can do the drawings from sketches or jpeg images. However, if you have CAD drawings the programming charges would be reduced depending on the quality of the drawings. Please note that the laser will not read splines.
Q. Do you just cut wood veneer? A. No, we can cut MDF (up to 9mm), paper, card, leather, mop, acrylic and solid wood up to (7mm thick). We can also etch all of these materials. Even though our laser does not cut metal - we can supply metal inlays which are used together with the veneer.
Q. Are you limited to a certain size that the laser can cut? A. Our laser bed is 1.3m wide, but we are not restricted on length as we can feed the material through.
Q. Do we need to supply you with veneer? A. We will happily use your veneer if you wish, however, if the veneer is excessively bubbly, we would charge for pressing. We hold a wide range of veneers in stock or can order it quickly if needed.
Q. What do you use to hold the marquetry together? A. We use a sticky backed plastic sheet, which is suitable for hot or cold pressing. It does leave a residue after removal but this can be removed using thinners or acetone before sanding. (My husband uses a rubber abrasive cleaning stick to rub the residue off).
Q. If I come up with a design concept, can you develop it? A. Yes, we have done this in the past with great success.
Q. Can you supply the marquetry, pressed and sanded. A. Yes, my husband is a furniture maker (www.alanenglefield.co.uk) and can do small orders. If the order is for large panels or large quantity we can contract this out to a very good pressing firm. If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to contact us. |
